What do you do at PEAK?
I deliver PE lessons and after school clubs in 4 schools currently. I absolutely love my job and it gives me an enormous amount of satisfaction whenever I see children achieving their learning outcomes.
When interacting with anyone at work I try to make it all pleasant and I try to keep the interaction about the children as that’s the most important thing. Basic stuff, for example, how the children are getting on with the lesson, which child might need more help or who is doing better than expected.
I try to make the children I teach feel comfortable and I try to seem approachable, so any teachers know they can speak to me about anything even to just chat. I would like to think everyone I work with feels happy to speak to me about anything.
What are your credentials/past experience, for working in your position?
I was an apprentice here at peak for 18 months to complete my L3 teaching assistant course. Since then I have worked at other company’s doing a similar job to what PEAK offer. However, nothing has been quite as organised and structured as PEAK is which is fantastic.
Another thing I do which helps me with my job and may give me a little advantage is I’m a rugby coach. I coach an U18 girls team at my rugby club. Where I also play rugby. The team I coach are very successful winning 4 trophy’s this season. I’m very proud to be apart of that team.
What’s your Archetype?
My primary archetype is an athlete. Which I would agree with. There is nothing I love more than winning a game of rugby especially when it’s an important game. However I just love to win at everything. Recently I’ve tried to take up golf with my friends and I am terrible. However, I will keep going and getting better hopefully I’ll get round a course.
My next archetype is caregiver. In my friends group some of them do come to me if they need help or to chat or even just just complain. I will always have time for them. I will have time for anyone who needs me for anything really.
My final archetype is explorer. Sometimes I do enjoy doing new things and exploring around to see what I can find. I love to go camping as it gives me a lot of opportunities to explore and just feel free to do whatever.
What do you like about working at PEAK/What are you looking forward to when working at PEAK?
The main thing I love about working at PEAK is being in our schools and teaching the children PE. I get to see children develop and become better all year. It makes me so happy to see children enjoy what they are doing and enjoy PE.
At PEAK you can see a real sense of support and helping. Everyone is trying to support everyone because we all understand how hard the job can be and sometimes you just need that little bit of help to take your teaching to the next level.
What’s your background?
I grew up in Sunderland. A little place on the very edge called Town End Farm. Before working at PEAK I was at East Durham College. Where I did a L3 BTEC in sport and science and I also played rugby for the college team.
In Town End Farm there was a little park outside of my school just across the road. And I remember me and my friends going there every morning before school started and just having a great time. The one person who comes to mind when I think who has impacted my life I would have to say my Nana. She was the first person I asked if I could play rugby and she said of course you can however you should ask your parents first. Rugby really changed my life and has helped me develop to the person I am today. So I am so thankful my nana said yes to me.
My favourite food growing up would probably be turkey sandwiches from the local butchers. My nana wound buy me one if we ever walked past and it was always the highlight of my day.
What are the values that drive you?
What really inspires me and drives me to carry on working is seeing the children I work with develop and get better at what they are doing. It bring me joy to see them enjoy a specific subject and put their full effort in.
I do believe that the children can say what they want however it has to be respectful, especially when speaking to other students. I hate hearing them shout at each other and put each other down. So I really push for them to give constructive criticism and not just shout.

What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?
When I’m not at work I love to go to my rugby club to either train, coach or just to grab a drink. It’s always great fun while I’m there with friends. Another thing I love to do is play games for example on Xbox. I’ve played games for a lot of years and has always been a real stress relief for me.
